Prayer and Study Groups

Prayer Groups

Men's Prayer Breakfast takes place on the first and third Thursdays of the month at Uncle John's Pancake House on Secor Road at 7:00 a.m.  A devotional discussion is held over breakfast.

The Email Prayer Chain  shares prayer requests from members and friends. You can request a prayer or ask to be added to the group by clicking the Request a Prayer button at the bottom of this page.

Sacred Stories is a small prayer group that meets on Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. We practice lectio divina, an ancient prayer pattern that invites us to listen to God speaking to us through a text of scripture. A time of sharing follows, during which we tell stories about our faith lives and connect our stories with God’s Story. We conclude the hour with prayer and affirmations, as we see and celebrate the Christ we meet in one another.

Study Groups

Church School Classes meet Sundays from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., September through May.

Men's and Women's Retreats are held each year at Widewater Retreat Center near Liberty Center, Ohio. The men retreat in the Fall for an overnight event and the women have an all-day retreat on a Saturday.

               Men's Retreat 2018

The Men’s Retreat will take place at Camp Widewater on the weekend of September 29-30. The price is $70. Confidential scholarships are available.

We will be viewing and discussing the DVD series Christian: It’s Not What You Think by Rev. Andy Stanley, with a brief worship service and communion on Sunday.  These retreats have been hugely successful and meaningful for everyone in the past. Please plan on attending.

Call Lou D’Amato by September 16 at 419-841-7388 or 419-360-3097, or email at Ldamato419@aol.com with your intent to attend.

               Women's Retreat 2018

Our annual Women’s Retreat will be held on Saturday, October 27, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  We will again                      meet at Widewater Retreat Center, and will welcome back Kris Fauver, who led our retreat last year.

Come -- and bring a friend -- for a day that will give you a chance to spend some moments away from your                      usual busy times. There will be opportunities to participate in large and small groups, to have time for quiet                      reflection, and to try some hands-on activities.

The $25 cost for the day includes breakfast snacks and lunch, along with coffee, tea, and water throughout                      the day. To register, contact Barbara Coleman, babc1743@sbcglobal.net, 419-410-1169.

         Book studies

This Fall Monroe Street UMC is hosting a book study and discussion of Welcoming the Stranger by Matthew Sorens and Jenny Yang. The study will take place on Saturday mornings from 10:30 - noon at the church, running ten weeks from 9/22 through 11/24. The price of the book is $13. Let Lou D'Amato (ldamato419@aol.com) know if you plan to participate and if you would like him to order a book for you.

Note: if you choose to order the book yourself, make sure you order the 2018 edition and not the 2009 edition.  Open to all who are interested.

Beacon and Bridge Bible Study

This Bible Study is an interesting and fun mix of church members, neighbors, and friends.  We meet every week in at 10:30 a.m. for an hour Whitney Parlor to study and share together.

We'd love to see you there--please join us!
