A child who reads is a child who succeeds. We believe that every child should be given the opportunity to fall in love with books.
Since the summer of 2017, Monroe Street Neighborhood Center has hosted and will continue to host Freedom School, a summer reading program for children ages five through twelve.
During this free program, young scholars spend six weeks participating in reading classes taught by local college students.
We partner with local organizations to provide enrichment activities in addition to reading, including gardening, singing, dancing, acting, and more. Kids also receive a healthy breakfast and a healthy lunch at no cost each day.
Monroe Street Neighborhood Center is delighted to offer Freedom School as a free program for families. In order to make the program as successful as possible, we ask parents to volunteer in the classroom and attend a weekly workshop.
If you are interested in signing your child up for Freedom School, or helping to financially support this ministry, please contact Clara Petty, Neighborhood Center Executive Director, at 419-473-1167, Ext. 317.
