A child who reads is a child who succeeds. We believe that every child should be given the opportunity to fall in love with books.
In June and July of 2017, and again in 2018, Monroe Street Neighborhood Center hosted Freedom School, a summer reading program for children ages five through twelve.
During this free program, young scholars spent six weeks participating in reading classes taught by local college students.
We partnered with local organizations to provide enrichment activities in addition to reading. Children enjoyed gardening, singing, dancing, acting, Tai Chi, cardio drumming, swimming, cooking, art, and local field trips. Kids also received a healthy breakfast and a healthy lunch at no cost each day.
Monroe Street Neighborhood Center is delighted to offer Freedom School as a free program for families. In order to make the program as successful as possible, we ask parents to volunteer in the classroom and attend a weekly workshop.
If you are interested in signing your child up for Freedom School, or helping to financially support this ministry, please contact Pastor Elizabeth at 419-473-1167, Ext. 213.
Freedom School 2019 will be held June 17 through July 26.
